Learn how to produce Cyanotypes, the camera-less photographic process.
Developed in 1842 by the scientist John Herschel, paper is coated with a particular light sensitive solution turning it green. When this is exposed to sunlight or ultra-violet light it changes to grey, then rinses to a rich indigo. Objects placed on it, blocking the light, leave a precise white photographic image.
It is quick and straight forward process that quickly lends itself to complexity: exposures only take 10 minutes and the paper is simply rinsed in tap water to fix. The impact of the colour is stunning and the results are always positive.
